Q: How did you become a DJ?

A: I loved the music so much I knew I wanted to do more with it.  I was at a party watching the dj and the connection he had with the crowd, I was hooked from that point on.

Q: Who taught you how to DJ?

A: I didn't know any djs at the time, so I taught myself.  I would go out to parties and study the djs who were performing.  I bought my own equipment and went to work. That was about ten years ago.

Q: What is your favorite part about what you do for a living?

A: When people ask "So what do you do for a living?"  While I do stay very busy and work hard, I'm really doing something I love and enjoying every single minute of it!  Free travel is a good perk too. =)

Q: What is your experience being a Female DJ in this industry?

A: I get asked stuff like this all the time in person and on the internet. What's with all the "Female DJ" questions? First off, I always hate getting asked these questions.  But I'm going to give my complete and honest answer/opinion.  Because.....and....that's why.

Q: Do you work with many other female djs?

A: Diet Coke, oh wait, wrong question.  Yes, I work with tons of female djs.

Q: Do you think since there is a separation in the term DJ to Female DJ, that guys should be called Male DJs?

A: I think it should just be "dj" but it would be hilarious if that term was used for the guys.

Q: What is the best experience you have had in your career?

A: Free drinks, just kidding.  I'm shy by nature and djing has given me the opportunity to really open up to people and express myself with music.  That answer is cheesy but true lol.  Also, if I can help someone relieve stress or forget about a crappy day by rockin' out on the dancefloor, that's just awesome.

Q: What is the worst experience you have had in your career?

A: Running out of green M&M's.  (the promoter is required to put 1000 of them in a glass jar in my hotel room before i arrive)

Q: Do you have any advice for other DJs to help them succeed in their career?

A: Yes. Be good at what you do. Don't be arrogant. Treat everyone with respect. Produce your own music and promote yourself.  Don't expect others to do it for you! And don't forget to bring a towel!

Kelly Trance along with another female dj, Ostara, throws an event every month for a different charity. Their efforts have raised thousands of dollars for different charities through their series of events called Disconnect.
